In this episode, I dive into How to Feel Content and Satisfied Now. I also outline what I’m going to talk about for the next handful of shows. This is in line with the handful of entrepreneurs I worked with this past year. Helping them overcome anxiety and overwhelm so they can grow their business while building a life they’re proud of.
I talk about my own journey with anxiety and overwhelm and how I was so focused on studying and trying to keep up with an unnatural pace of reading and producing shows that I was missing so much in my own learning and evolution.
What ended up happening is that the creative drive really got squelched by trying to keep up with the Jones’ so to speak. Or more accurately trying to keep up with all the new releases and books on the best sellers list so I didn’t miss anything.
It’s not that that is necessarily a bad thing, but it was fueled by the fear of missing out, which is far from the desire to create and express.
With that as the underlying feeling, it was nearly impossible to feel content or satisfied in the never-ending cycle of trying to keep up with something that had no end in sight.
The place I started and where I start my clients is with the feeling of being content and satisfied.
At this point, I am almost completely convinced that the incessant need to hustle 24/7 is deeply rooted in an attempt to feel… good enough… worthy enough… enough… period.
A coach of mine said this to me and it was like a wake up slap in the head.
Stop Resisting Life – Start Surrendering to Life
It’s one thing to have a full life and love it. It’s another thing to constantly be working and feel like you’re never going to get there. Wherever there is.
So to be content. To be completely satisfied with this very moment AND to want more is the place to start. It’s really hard to resist what’s true at this moment and move forward in life.
In order to start believing something different, you have to think different thoughts and experience different feelings. This is contrary to the popular belief that you need to have a routine that is the same every day. I’ll go into what I use and how we plan our days in future episodes.
What you’re focusing on now is causing you to feel the way you feel and you can use what Dr. Joe Dispenza calls the generous present moment as a fertile ground for creation.
In order to do this, there are a few things that have to happen. You have to understand your typical practiced emotional response. Because if you’re used to feeling guilt, anger, frustration, overwhelm… people and conditions in your life will perpetuate those emotional states. We literally become addicted to these emotions on a biochemical level and crave them like any addiction.
I remember when I started to make this shift. Prior to making this shift I always felt chased and in many ways tormented by the past as well as current problems. And as a result, I wanted something different for my life. But it wasn’t from a grounded present moment reality. It was in opposition to but still in an emotional connection with the past and the present moment.
So what changed?
Continually dropping into the present moment – Feeling content NOW
And feeling content now brings you out of the survival emotions of the past and lets you release the very thing that keeps a lot of people stuck. Need, doubt, worry, fear, apprehension, and hesitation.
When we can find contentment and satisfaction in the present moment, it’s like building a bridge to what you want.
And any time you get pulled into fear or worry, you can come back to this place.
Not only does it bring you closer to what you want, but you also start to have a richer experience of life. You’ll have almost immediate access to higher-level emotions like love, gratitude, appreciation, joy, and excitement.
In the next episode, I’m going to unpack how to better cultivate the present moment. We’re going to dive in and get a little tactical on this one. Getting present is one thing. Staying present is another, especially when you have to filter through all the interruptions, distractions, and intrusions that happen around us while we are attempting to go about our day.
