160: It’s Not Always What You Think It Is

What seemed like another lifetime ago I was a live in private chef. I’d live in someone’s home anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months. In the beginning, the majority of these people had stage 3 or 4 cancer and the food and lifestyle approach was their last straw.

The interesting thing about it was that some of these folks were way gone. They were coming to the end.

I noticed there were two different types of people…

There were those still holding onto their old ways, still pushing to go to work, still treating other people like crap, and just all around had a bad attitude.

But others had that look of surrender in their eyes, they became softer, more present, more receptive, and curious.

You may be able to guess the ending of this.

The hold on and push harder version didn’t last very long. They usually ended up passing in a few weeks or months.

The others. Well, they lived much longer than their die-agnosis predicted.

Here’s the thing though.

The condition and symptoms were there for a purpose. They were an invitation to change. To do things differently.

So many times in our business we try to resolve the symptoms of not enough clients, restricted cash flow, overwhelm, and creative constipation by doing more of the same and pushing harder.

But that’s part of the problem. The purpose of those symptoms is for us to adjust. NOT just to adjust our strategy, but to adjust how we’re showing up, what we’re willing to do, and get brutally honest with where we’ve been hiding and what we’ve been holding back

It’s not always what you think it is.

It’s not always your strategy that needs to be tweaked, but the operator of that strategy that needs adjusting.

Wouldn’t it make sense that when you change, that those symptoms in your business would also start to change?

I’m still amazed when my clients go from stressed out and overwhelmed to clear, focused, and into action, then shortly after start seeing huge strides in their business.

Some doubling their income in just the first few weeks and others hitting their sales goals for the month in just one week.
