We’re all on differing degrees of lockdown right now and in my opinion, life as we knew it will never be the same.
I know for me and some of my clients that has brought up a wide range of emotion. Everything from sadness, depression, and anger to hope, possibility, and contentment.
But there seemed to be one state of being that was really heightened this past week.
Anger
All emotions serve a purpose. I know it’s hard to see that at times. Believe me, I still get taken out by intense emotions too. But when I can receive the message and surrender to the action (or inaction) that get’s to happen, that emotion moves.
One of my favorite authors on the topic Karla McLaren talks about anger like this…
“Karla gave an example about anger and how a healthy emotional interpretation would sound more like… “There is some boundary or rule that has been broken right now and what do I need to do about it” rather than what most people do which is “I’m angry, who’s going to get hit.”
Anger specifically right now is highly activated because it is a natural byproduct of feeling helpless in a situation. And we typically want to point the finger and find someone to blame.”
And that is far from useful or productive.
The really amazing thing about anger is that it’s trying to speed us up to and supply us with the energy needed to change our current state into a something new. We’ve just gotten so out of tune with the truth of who we are and what emotions actually mean that their messages often get misdirected.
Right now we have the ability to be our own best asset if we can see these challenging times as an opportunity to forge a new identity by being present with what is and paving the way for who we actually choose to be.
My invitation to you is that you use this time wisely and don’t piss it away just waiting for things to clear up.
Because things won’t return to life as usual. But they will reset to life as a direct result of what you desire and what you design.
